What Ham Browser is built on, and who to thank for it.

Ham Browser is assembled from open-source work by a great many people. Each component below is used under its own licence, and those licences continue to apply.

The browser itself

The Radio Programmer

Channel programming is done by CHIRP, the free radio programming project, which is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3. CHIRP is not modified for Ham Browser and runs as a separate process behind its own interface.

As the GPL requires, CHIRP’s complete source is included in the application itself, under Resources/hamilton/chirp inside the installed program. It is also available from the CHIRP project directly. Our thanks to Dan Smith and everyone who has written a radio driver for it — hundreds of radios work because they did that work.

Maps and drawing

Typefaces

The interface is set in Inter by Rasmus Andersson. The QSL card designer bundles sixty-three families, each used under the SIL Open Font License or a comparable licence permitting embedding, so that a card drawn on your computer looks the same on someone else’s.

Data

Service names and logos belong to their owners and are used to identify those services, not to imply any endorsement.

And the operators

Most of all, Ham Browser exists because of the people who keep the bands alive — who answer a weak signal, who run a net on a Tuesday night, who put a park on the air in the rain, and who send a card to a stranger. This one is for you.
